Engineering update

Throughout the last year, Typeware has been highly design-focused, improving the useability, ergonomics, and manufacturability. We have been learning a lot from all the different prototype iterations. Below is an overview of changes we felt were necessary to make.

All efforts have been leading to an even better design, but also imply that more resources have been needed (time, budget). As a consequence, the Typeware One has a new delivery target: Q3 2025. Roughly the same holds for the tour, though selective city visits may happen prior to Q3.

Some of the most notable changes:

  • Haptic feedback: though it would be possible to design a working device without this, we more and more realize that this adds an important dimension. For example, when you press a button to change a mode: the feedback can tell you what mode you are in. It can also give feedback when typing, this way helping to learn how to type quicker and type more accurate. And of course all the spatial options exist that are known from VR and gaming.
  • Allowing to work without the pinky-side support: this support is a delimiter for the device not to drift towards the little finger. Being able to work without this impacts many aspects of the device. For instance, we have been deep-diving into friction theory to improve the level of autocorrection.

This also implies a small price increase. We have decided that already (pre) ordered devices will still be shipped for the same price. And the general pre-order-discount compared to the list-price also remains in place.

Our intention is to follow up with a news update soon, somewhere during the remainder of 2024, with more detail and more action. Do contact us if you have further questions. Several people have also contacted us with the question to gain some experience with 3D printed intermediate prototypes. We can't grant this to everybody, but wo do find it very motivating to get this question!
